Nobody Puts Friendly Forces in the Corner!

Friendly Forces attended Blue Star Families’ annual celebration last week in Washington, DC as the token PART⚡TIME Hitter organization and advocate. A good time and many drinks were had by all. These events are important for getting word out about the organization and the important work its doing.

To that end, this week, Friendly Forces Executive Director Eric Evans has his first meeting on Capitol Hill with congressional staff this week to talk about the criticality of paid military leave for Guard/Reserve service members, their families, and our nation’s military readiness. He was cranky about having to take a day of PTO from his regular job to do so, so let’s hope for nothing less than 100% support and capitulation from congress to make his sacrifice worth it.

As always, if you’re looking for a #reservistfriendly employers, check out the Friendly Forces Friendlies List. If you’re employer is crushing it in terms of support, reach and we’ll add them. If they suck, also reach out. Maybe we can help.

You forgot about 40% of the force…

More Veteran Transition Industry Shenanigans

Because our team is active in the veteran support space, we are subjected to lots of LinkedIn spam about various events to heLp VetRunZ. One such event recently caught our attention.

The Military Officers Association of America, or MOAA, is hosting their Total Force Conference this week in Washington, DC.

Stunning and brave

Sounds absolutely amazinggg.

Too bad when we looked at the conference agenda there wasn’t a single session pertaining to the Guard/Reserve experience. Kind of ironic to have a “Total Force” Conference and leave out roughly 40% of that force from the conversation.

We’ve got a guy.

AI is Definitely Going to Kill Us All…Maybe

Okay, here’s the deal: AI is most definitely going to destroy us all at some point. Physically, that is. Like, kill us.

More pressing for you and I is the question of whether or not it will destroy us economically. Is it going to take our jobs?

The jury’s still out. There has absolutely been displacement of entry level white-collar jobs to AI already.

HOWEVER, we’re also reading plenty of reports that companies acted too soon and the AI either can’t perform the work as well as humans or is not creating positive RO for whatever reason. Some companies are now scrambling to hire back people they fired and tried to replace with AI.

Then there’s companies that are essentially just outsourcing American jobs to places like India, but have found a convenient scapegoat in AI.

So what’s actually happening here?

We’re watching a familiar cycle — one that happens every time a big technological shift hits the mainstream. First comes panic, then overreaction, then correction. The truth, as usual, sits somewhere in the middle.

AI is killing jobs, but mostly the lazy, repetitive, low-creativity ones that people didn’t love doing anyway. The real threat isn’t AI itself; it’s the people who are learning to leverage it to increase their productivity and value.

If you’re curious, creative, or even a little competitive, AI is not your enemy, it’s your chance, right now, to get ahead of the curve. The smartest people I know are already learning how to stack it on top of their own skills: marketers becoming faster analysts, writers becoming editors, analysts becoming strategists. They’re not competing with AI; they’re competing through it.

And this is where things get interesting for business. The gap, right now at least, isn’t between humans and AI — it’s between humans who know how to use AI and humans who don’t. One side is leveraging the tools; the other side is hoping the storm passes. Spoiler: it won’t.

So no, AI probably isn’t going to replace you. But someone using AI might.

Until then, we’ve got a choice: wait to be replaced, or learn to wield the thing that’s supposedly coming for us.

Here are some of the best, high-ROI, most recognized AI certs/courses you can take.
