It’s not about me, but it is.
Reservist Guilt - Letting the Company Down
Sometimes just having a great military leave policy on paper isn’t enough. How a company treats its employees when they have to be absent for military obligations is important.
Recently, someone reached out to me because they recently started a new job and believe they may be mobilized soon for 6-12 months. They wanted to know what they can do to assuage any possible hostile feelings from their team for their absence.
I get it. Our absences can create staffing and workload problems for our colleagues (especially if you’re on a small team).
It can be natural to feel guilty about this—like you’re letting the team down or not shouldering your weight.
However, the fact is that the American economy, its companies, its jobs, its access to global markets and supply chains, exist ONLY because people like this person are willing to put on the uniform and go ensure it through American military power projection.
Remember this If you’re dealing with a manager or teammate who is making you feel bad for answering the call to serve our country,
YOU do tower guard in the desert, patrol the pacific in a submarine, and train in usually unpleasant weather so THEY don’t have to.
Must be nice.
Friendly Forces works with companies to help educate their executives and middle managers about the duties and obligations of Reservists so that they understand these things.
We’re always happy to do a presentation for a company on this who is interested in learning more and being more supportive to our community.
=======================================================
And, as always, we want to get more companies added to the Friendlies List to best service the Reservist community.
Good or bad, reach out and let us know your company’s policy. If it’s good—we want to add them to our list. If it’s bad, we want to partner and help them—and you.

Fireside Chats are Fun
Earlier this week we did a virtual Fireside Chat with Shift to discuss their program and how it helps veterans and part time bois transition into great jobs or make career pivots.
6 people actually attended. And you know what? It was awesome.
I am going to do the program myself.
I think we still start doing more of these. Sometimes there will be an agenda, sometimes not, but its always fun (and extremely useful) to network with other career minded veteran professionals.

Brokering public/private partnerships to establish free-use recreation areas tailored for today's military & veterans
It’s no secret that many veterans suffer with mental and emotional burdens. Sometimes the solution isn’t another pain medication prescription, but getting them out and involved in activities with other veterans.
Reczealient is an Arkansas-based non profit that was founded to broker public/private partnerships that establish free-use recreation areas for military and veteran use.
Check out the flyer below and if you are able to help with government advocacy to secure grand funding OR you know higher education / healthcare leaders interested in researching nature as medicine, please reach out to Kyle Schultz (contact info below).

The Fratty Guard Updates
We’re Running Unit Collabs Now
What’s cool about this community is that you guys often come to us with ideas. We are currently working on some Fratty Guard collabs with individual units. They’re pretty dope.
If you’re interested in getting your platoon / squad / division some hot undershirts or PTs, hit us up and we’ll make some ill shit together.
