Friendly Forces Updates

Military Appreciation Month🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

Did you know May is Military Appreciation Month? I didn’t either, at least not until fairly recently. So, what the hell does this mean? According to the Google machine, this:

National Military Appreciation Month, also known as Military Appreciation Month, is a month-long observance in the United States, dedicated to people who are currently serving in, and veterans of, the United States military. Each year, the observance runs from May 1 to May 31.

I feel seen! Don’t you?

Mostly it seems to be another occasion for corporations to post lame graphics on LinkedIn about how much the military means to them while largely ignoring the needs and challenges of veterans and, particularly, Reservists.

We would ask you use this occasion as a way to connect your employer to Friendly Forces so we can show them how to truly appreciate the SERVING MILITARY MEMBERS IN THEIR OWN WORK FORCE by implementing supportive paid military leave and other programs.

As always, we can be reached at [email protected] to start the conversation or for you tell us about your company’s military leave policy (good or bad). The good guys get added to the Friendly Forces Friendliest List.

On that note, we added some new companies to the Friendlies List this past week:

  • Best Buy

  • Elastic

  • Texas Instruments

We also sometimes take companies off of it when we learn they have changed or updated their policies for the worse. This is why it’s important you all keep us updated and engage with our team.

Did we just become best friends?

We’re Partnering with Shift Group to Get Veterans Great Jobs

This is big.

We are excited to announce a new partnership with an organization that is unique in how it helps veterans land jobs. Friendly Forces and the Shift Group have recently locked arms to serve you, and help you find your next mission, whether you’re coming off of active duty or you’re stacking bodies as a part time hitter. The Shift Group is unique in how they help you tell your story, and how they train and showcase you to hundreds of companies.

So, for starters…

We would like to invite you to a virtual Whiskey Wednesday Fireside Chat with Eric Evans, Friendly Forces Executive Director, and Bobby Payne of the Shift Group to drink some whiskey and learn more.

Date - Wed, May 21st

Time - 1900 EST

Location - Virtual

I will likely be drinking Bulleit Rye Whiskey.

Resumes suck, the job market is tough, and it's hard to stand out. It can also be hard for veterans to accurately communicate their value. This is an example of how Shift presents you to the business world - Candidate Profile – Mac Helmsworth

…and guess what? It works. The data proves it. And it’s free.

If you like what you see, and are interested in getting started before the event you can sign up here - Get started now

Excited to see you on the 21st.

A better AirBnB for Verified Military Members

Veteran Entrepreneurs Doing Big Things - The Military BnB Platform for Short & Long Term Stays

I am a big proponent of entrepreneurship, particularly veteran entrepreneurship, and I have been watching the Foxhole team build out their platform for a minute. I love it and think it’s an awesome idea with a great mission.

What is Foxhole?
Foxhole is the Military BnB platform exclusively for verified military guests. Every guest is verified Active Duty, Veteran, or Military Dependent—no exceptions, no tourists.

Why it matters:
Housing for PCS, TDY, Weekend trips, and training shouldn’t feel like a gamble. Foxhole brings trust, access, and affordability back to the military travel space.

  • It’s free to sign up for all military members

  • Military status is automatically verified

  • Guests book short- or long-term stays from hosts who either served themselves or were personally vetted by the Foxhole team

  • No random hosts. No tourist trap listings.

  • We also offer PCS pairing. You submit the dates and your next duty station to Foxhole, and the Foxhole team finds your next place for you, for free. (We have already processed 4 PCS pairings)

Lowest fees in the industry:
Foxhole charges just 15% on long-term stays (one-time "Finder's Fee"  from the first month’s rent, the host pays this) and 10% on short-term bookings. That’s it. It’s our version of a built-in military discount—designed so hosts can keep more, and guests pay less.

In fact, many hosts voluntarily lower their prices to reflect Foxhole’s mission and help fellow service members afford better stays.

Click here to sign up and start using Foxhole as either a host or a guest.

The Fratty Guard Updates

New Merch Drop

If you follow his ass on LinkedIn, you may or may not know that CPT Chadwick may or may not be at SOF Week in Tampa. He may or may not be hosting the Chadwick Capital Special Operations Charity Lacrosse Classic to Support Veteran VCs, and he may or may not have already been banned for life.

Details are hazy right now as we work through that situation on the ground. What we know is that we will have lots of extra event tee shirts for those who couldn’t attend this prestigious yet highly classified event in person. CPT Chadwick fat fingered the order, which is coincidentally how he got fired from his first job at Goldman Sachs.

We’ll try to get those up on the store next week.

In the meantime, The Fratty Guard has added some haute new items to the store this week. Flags were resupplied and the USASOCAPOC (A) patches were added. That’s United States Army Special Operations Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) for you silly gooses out there.

I can’t emphasize enough how much Active Duty hates this patch (and our very way of life). Wear it with pride.

Cop it and other merch on The Fratty Guard Store.

News…so hot right now…News

If you support the work that Friendly Forces does, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help keep the lights on. Every bit helps. Turns out stuff is expensive and we put countless man hours into the work.

That’s all for now. BIG THINGS COMING.
