Friendly Forces Updates
Everyone Loves the National Guard During a Crisis
Over the past week, scenes from Los Angeles have reminded us of a hard truth: when crisis strikes, it’s not just police and first responders who answer the call—it’s the National Guard. These are not strangers. They are your coworkers, your neighbors, your employees.
And they only show up if they are able to keep serving because of supportive employers.
The recent mobilization of the Guard during the LA riots should be a wake-up call for every business leader in America. Our nation relies on a part-time force to respond to full-time emergencies. These men and women can’t go unless someone at their civilian job says, “We’ve got you—go serve.”
The uncomfortable reality is this: too many employers are still unprepared. Some have no formal military leave policies. Others make service a career risk. Even well-meaning companies often fall short when Guard members are called up on short notice.
This isn’t just a personnel issue. It’s a national security issue. It’s a readiness issue. If we want the Guard to be ready when the next disaster, riot, or emergency hits—then businesses need to be ready too.
That starts with creating and enforcing military leave policies that don’t just comply with the law, but that actively support those who serve. Paid military leave, protected job status, leadership understanding, and a culture that values service—these are the things that ensure our Guardsmen and women are able to show up when the country needs them most.
The Guard will always stand ready.
But they can’t serve if employers don’t enable them.
Friendly Forces works with companies across industries to implement military leave programs and train leaders to support employees in the Guard and Reserve. If your business wants to do more than say “thank you”—we can help.

Captain Chadwick Punches Out and Goes to Work
I am writing this post on behalf of Captain Chadwick because he has been deployed domestically.
I’m scared for the protesters, and ICE. And the LAPD.
The dude trains CQB like the rest of us breathe oxygen.
Anyway, we asked him what, if anything, he needed during this crazy time.
“Support the store so I can buy the dudes lickies and chewies”
Even in extreme crisis, he’s only looking out for the joes. God bless him.
